Push-up bras
The push-up bra was designed in the 60s and been must-have underwear for the last 20 years without ever being fully appreciated. This bra boosts your power of seduction whether you’re small or large chested.
The push-up effect
The push-up bra is a design that suits almost any shape. This form of underwear re-centres the bust and creates buxom cleavage. The bust is drawn to the centre panel in classic or triangle push-up bras. Don’t be fooled; push-up doesn’t always mean padded! There’s often confusion between push-up and padded bras. If you want to make your bust look bigger, go for padded bras.

Some people unfairly see this type of bra as a way to “cheat” as it boosts your bust and has a reputation for only suiting small or medium chest sizes. Wrong, wrong, wrong! It’s ideal for large chest sizes too. Push-up bras have other assets: your bust can lose its firmness with age and pregnancy so push-up bras are your best friend for a sculpting and lifting effect.
Anything else? Yes! We can all enjoy the push-up effect as long as we choose the right one. As we’ve seen before, there are all sorts: padded, unpadded, progressive padding, plunge and more.
How to choose your push-up bra?
"My chest size is large"
Do you have a large chest size or hourglass figure? You don’t need to make your bust look any bigger so go for a soft model or one with progressive padding. These bras are designed to add volume on the sides and under the bust. That means they boost uplift without adding volume solely at the front of your cleavage. The size spreads “evenly” for large chest sizes. You don’t have to wear padded push-up bras though! It all depends what effect you want. Top tip: your bra should support your bust so avoid push-up bras with skinny straps and choose underwire ones.
"My chest size is small or medium"
If you have a small or medium chest size you can go for padded bras to boost your bust. Padded and half push-up bras are made for you (also known as progressive padded push-up bras). The results are different:• Go for a half push-up or progressive padded bra for consistent volume. They have thinner and more discreet padding that tends to be incorporated into the lower cup and outer sides so it doesn’t completely cover you up. The effect of a half push-up is more subtle than a classic padded bra. It’s the perfect compromise for anyone who wants a natural look with the elegance of lace lingerie.
• Go for a padded push-up bra for more cleavage around the centre panel. Padding ramps up the push-up effect giving you a bigger cleavage and rounder chest. It’s comfortable, supportive and showcases your bust. You can get models with removable padding.
What to wear with push-up bras?
Push-up bras sculpt, reshape and lift your bust so make the most of them to show off your assets.
• Low V-neck tops
Plunge push-up bras are perfect for V-neck tops. They support your chest to create curves. The centre panel is smaller and in the lower half of the cups so the bra is more “open” around the cleavage making it super glam. This is all about being bold!
• Low scoop neck tops
If you don’t want to reveal too much, a progressive padded push-up bra looks great with round neck tops.
All you need is an uplift effect for deep cleavage so there’s no need to boost your bust size towards the centre.
